Dayak tribe in its cultural uniqueness in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan.

1.Clothing

Orange plantation in Sambas Regency

Sambas regency orange is well known as a sweet orange produce since a long time ago. Pontianak oranges trade mark in the market outside the  province of West Kalimantan was originally derived from Sambas regency, it is spread in some sub districts such as: Tebas, Semparuk and Sebawi. The Suitable land for cultivation plants make most people plant oranges because It can raise their economic standard and orange become popular plant in their life until now.

Based on data from Statistics Sambas regency in 2009 with the area is over 10,000 hectares and the number of tree of plants produced as many as 3,193,537 trees and it is result of fruit about 1,516,326 hundred pounds of fruit.

The problem is the marketing of fruit products which are sold are still in the form of fresh fruit without any refined products like syrup, juice etc.

The opportunity had for anyone who would invest in the development

of processed products from oranges given that the availability of land resources and crops that have been around a long time.

Bidai is Sambas local typical products made of other natural materials of rattan and bark originating and spread in Sambas district.

Bidai, has been used by local communities, especially indigenous (Dayak) for the seat with family and entertain guests at home.

Skill in making Bidai is passed from generation to generation until today. There is no all chemical mixtures in the process and workmanship, and all of them use the skills acquired from the hands of the previous generation.

Thus, this Bidai is very safe for your family and of course unique to collected and show to your friends who were visiting relatives’ houses.

Sambas Palace

Sambas Palace which is now, was built by Sultan Muhammad Ibrahim Honor in 1933, occupied by 6 July 1935. Sambas Palace construction cost of 65. Gulden, through credit aid by Sultan of Kutai. Contractor performed the construction Tjin Nyuk from Pontianak. With a building area measuring 9.50 meters long and 8.05 meters width.

Estuary Ulakan got In front of the Palace, where as intersection of small Sambas river, Subah river, Teberau river, now in the Dalam Kaum village, Sambas subdistrict since ancient had establishment of Sambas Sultanate Palace (1632) by Raden Bima Sultan Muhammad Tajuddin, second of Sultan Sambas. In the bank river, there is a ladder bridges called with Seteher, where a stop in canoes or boats and water vehicles that many in the Sambas river.

Rise to the mainland by the river, there is the entrance to the Palace yard. Before going in we’re going through an entrance gate to the yard gate, called the Palace Eight Aspects. Entrance octagonal gate  from the river approximately 30 meters. Gates have two floor was previously used for:

Incredible Heritage Uniqueness

of Woven cloth in Sambas Regency,

West Kalimantan, Indonesia

1. Introduction

Sambas regency has a lot value culture and it is well known from a long time ago. At this time Songket Sambas still remain and exist although various product from any manufacturer abundant in the market . Songket weaving handicrafts Sambas are original craft result from the malay ethnic community who live in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. Weaving Songket already carry on by hereditary, even from the days of royal rule in Sambas songket already exists. It was originally created songket only to be used by communities  in custom event  such as wedding, tepung tawar , etc., songket orders made on the basis of the empire that ruled at the time of Sambas and in a special made to meet the royal orders songket made in the best quality materials including basic yarn made of silk, gold, high quality fabric with basic colors are generally yellow color match the greatness of the kingdom of Sambas and type of cloth made of padang  tibakar dagin (the name of the type of cloth made of bamboo shoots are characterized by motifs and inlaid top with gold thread on each motif cloth).

In general, in giving the name or names of cloth woven in Sambas motifs using terms or language used to Sambas tempo, this as evidence that the motive Sambas songket genuine because it came from Sambas created by the people, and in looking for an inspiration to create a motif, Sambas melayu community at large to take inspiration from the shape of flowers or leaves a lot to grow around his yard, so almost any name or form of motifs Sambas nuance plants.

2. Weaving tools and materials

Currently the material used in the manufacture of Sambas songket is cotton yarn and to create motifs using gold or silver thread made in Japan.

The tool used in made of Sambas songket are from wood and done manually / traditional crafts songket so it’ very labor intensive.

Approximately there are 17 stages to go through to make a woven cloth Sambas, and the long process of making a piece of songket depending on the complexity of motives that are made, the more complex motives that made the work more time and vice versa, or a little more simple motifs that made it increasingly short processing time, fast or slow processing time and height levels of complexity in a very powerful motive for making the price offered cloth.

3. Style Sambas woven cloth made in several types or character, including:

1. Cloth Padang Tibakar Dagin (type of fabric characterized motifs made bamboo shoots and shoots across the cloth base and given a full motifs using gold and silver threads).

Type of product produced from Sambas songket craft is now very diverse.The fabric not only made cloth and shawl for women wearing but also cloth Sabok or half-mast for men clothing dress .It is combined with Teluk Belanga (custom shirt ), otherwise a good wall decoration in the form of calligraphy ,prayer rug, rimless cap, clothes koko given gold thread trim, dress shirt from Cual cloth, scarves, and much more.

5. Employee and galleries

The number of craftsmen in Sambas Songket currently there are about 300 people spread across seven village point, and there are several galleries or stores that can be visited to get songket handicrafts in the town of Sambas, one songket gallery Sambas “SAHIDAH” which address in Jl. Education no. 283 Sambas district. Besides a place to sell handicrafts woven Weaving Gallery Songket Sambas Sambas “SAHIDAH” also functioned as a traditional handicraft industry tour, visitors can see not only the product of a finished weaving but also can directly see the process of making cloth songket Sambas with traditional tools, various images and motifs fabrics since time immemorial to the present collection of “SAHIDAH SONGKET” can be seen on there….. …
